Let’s Discuss
Of course, because this is a digital marketing agency, they’ll be related to…
You guessed it!

Digital Marketing!
This one’s important to me because, despite the fact that we’re almost entirely functioning online, many people don’t seem to understand the importance of digital marketing.

I Can’t
Emphasise enough how crucial each service is to creating an optimised experience that’ll give you the best chance to grow and thrive online.

With All Of That Being Said,
Let’s have a look at some of the common (and not so common) misconceptions revolving around digital marketing, why they need to be addressed, and a fun fact at the end!

I. Jack Of All Trades
I’d like to start by addressing the biggest misconception, which is the idea that one person can do the job of many.

It’s Just Plain Wrong.
There’s a reason digital marketing agencies offer different services.
They’re all handled by experts in their respective fields.

I’ll Give You An Example.
Being the copywriter, I’m responsible for writing (and overseeing) all of the copy that’s written for the company.

But I Suck At The Visual Aspect.
We have a dedicated graphic designer (she’s brilliant, by the way) who handles the visual aspect of things.

And This Allows Us
To focus on making sure that everything we deliver in terms of work is given complete attention to detail and quality.

Being Able To Handle Other Jobs
Is a great skill to have, but it shouldn’t be used unless absolutely necessary.

Allow Specialists To Specialise.
It allows them to learn the ins and outs, get comfortable with the company’s identity, and whatever else you need to make the most of their capacity.

It’s Not A Marketing Tactic
To make extra money. People spend years learning what they do to make it look easy, and it’s important to make the most of that.

II. I Only Need A Website.
So, this is a pretty common misconception, and actually, one that I’ve heard in many situations outside of work.

Don’t Get Me Wrong,
Having a website is definitely important.
But your website is the endpoint in a consumer journey – not the starting point.

You Need To Have A Presence.
Presence on social media, and online in general.
You could have the best site in the world, but if nobody knows about it, it’s null.

There’s Another Reason
You should focus on other aspects of digital marketing – your ranking.
As word of your site spreads, it’ll begin to climb ranks and become more popular.

It’s An Investment.
Use it properly and you’ll see returns.

III. The Socialite’s Approach.
On the other side of the coin is the idea that social media is the be-all and end-all of digital marketing.

Surprise – It Isn’t.
In the same way that having a website alone doesn’t guarantee anything, focusing entirely on your social media will show you the same (lack of) returns.

The Key
With both of the above-mentioned points is that you have to be able to strike a balance between all of the aspects of digital marketing.

People Like Convenience.
Make it easy for them to find you, and easy for them to work with you.
We tend to subconsciously link websites to purchasing goods, and social media to interaction.
Mixing the two up only creates confusion and drives people away.

IV. The Instant Era Means Instant Returns.
This one really grinds my gears.

And It Grinds My Gears
Because I really love what I do.
I have a genuine passion for working in this field – as does everybody in the KlickSense team.

But We Know Good Things Take Time.
Anything that’s put out (legitimately) to advertise or approach people has to go through a thorough approval process.

And Once It’s Out There
It has to be given to people.
And they have to respond.
It’s a permanently changing and growing environment, and patience is so incredibly crucial to the whole process.

Don’t Expect Overnight Results.
They’re very rare.
If you want to compete in the online world, you have to be ready to buckle up, knuckle down and work your way to the top.

I Won’t Lie
It won’t be easy.

But It’ll Be Worth It.

V. I Don’t Need Digital Marketing
This one isn’t so much a misconception, because it’s not entirely wrong.
You may not need shoes to run – but they certainly help.

If You Want To Expedite Your Growth
Work with professionals.
If it wasn’t helpful, it wouldn’t exist.

It’ll Give You Time
To focus on the other aspects of your business, and it’ll save you a lot of time and hassle.

It’s Not Necessary.
But if you want to see growth, you’ll probably need the extra help.

This Point
Has been one of contention, because there’s money involved.
But there are free trials that’ll give you a chance to try for yourself and see if it works.

The Internet
Is really good at misleading people.
Which is why this blog post exists.
If you walk away with one thing, let it be this:

Digital Marketing Is A Passion-Driven Labour Of Love.
And the processes are in place for a reason.
Trust them, and you’ll see results.

Fun Fact:
The strawberry is the only fruit with seeds on the outside.
